Our Children's Sunday School Program
The First United Methodist Church of Troy is excited to provide your family with the opportunity to experience the Word of God through the successful Rotation Model Sunday School for ages 4 years through fifth grade.
Each week a teacher in each room will present the Bible story for the current rotation in an imaginative way to one of the age groups. An adult “shepherd” stays with each age group throughout the year to be a consistent, familiar helper and mentor. The children, with their shepherd, will travel to each room over the course of a 3- or 4-week rotation.
Your children will have lots of fun exploring the Bible in our theme rooms like: Spirit Safari Drama Room, the Loaves and Fishes Diner/Kitchen, Creation Station Art Room, the Praise Garden Music and Movement Room, Morning Star Theatre and God’s Galaxy Science Room.
Your child is encouraged to participate in our Spirit Seekers programs. Walk-ins are welcome! Adult Christian education classes and child care for younger siblings will be provided during this time slot. Our Spirit Seekers Coordinator, Rev.Cindy Blakely, would be happy to answer your questions about this really cool Sunday School experience! You may contact Sue Wesp.
About the Rotational Sunday School Model
It is known that children learn in a variety of ways and respond well to multimedia experiences. It is also evident that through repetition and practical application, more information is both obtained and retained. The Rotational Model was created to teach Biblical concepts and stories through multimedia workshops such as art, science, drama, cooking, music and movement, movies and games. Children become engaged with their environment as it immerses them in Biblical History. Walls and spaces are designed to depict glimpses of that history through scenarios and projects, objects and architecture, animals and geography, colors, fabrics and more! Scheduling a concept or story to be experienced for 3-4 week segments facilitates learning through repetition and practical experience
In addition to the experience it offers our children, the Rotation Model also creates opportunities for many adults in the church. There are positions that require very minimal time and energy commitment such as leading or co-leading a workshop for 3-4 weeks or video taping a puppet show or sewing a curtain. For those interested in coming more time, you can volunteer for multiple rotations or take on the "bonding" role of shepherd.
