First United Methodist Church of Troy
Outreach
SOS

Every year we host homeless guests here at the church through the South Oakland Shelter (SOS).

If you would like to help with the leadership of this homeless ministry please contact Julie at 248-879-6363 or Ron Butterbaugh, Outreach Chair. Remember that school does not start until after Labor Day this year so hopefully it will be easier for you to volunteer.

Blood Drive Four times a year volunteers donate an hour of time and a pint of lifesaving blood. Our Christmas blood drive has become a special tradition of heartfelt giving during the holiday season. You can donate blood or work at the drive; both are appreciated.

CROP Walk

Work, sponsor a walker, or walk on the first Sunday of May to alleviate world hunger. Many Troy churches participate.

Missionary Support

We support a missionary in Cali, Colombia and have a covenant partnership with Monrovia First UMC, Liberia.

Our Covenant with the Monrovia First United Methodist Church (MFUMC) includes Exchanges. “It is hereby agreed that our Two Churches will promote the Exchanges of Pastor, Lay Leaders, Choir Member, Musicians and Members.”

Mission Trips We have several mission work trips annually. The Senior High Your trip is each summer. Adults usually go to Haiti in the winter and Red Bird in Kentucky in the fall.

Ongoing Missions

The congregation is always collecting socks and gloves, Campbell Soup labels, used cell phones, used eyeglasses and non-perishable food items. We continually support the following organizations:

  • Troy People Concerned: A 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been providing assistance to the local community since 1974. Members of the congregation often provide assistance to this group in the form of donations, clothing, food for the pantry or holiday basket program.
  • Baldwin Center: Volunteers from the church help serve lunch on a monthly basis. The church also donates gifts for the Giving Tree during Advent.
